Motherhood photoshoot in Ballater, Scotland

Wander Scotland's Quiet Corners

Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all—the noise, the crowds, the endless to-do lists. Aberdeenshire offers the perfect escape. With its rolling hills, wild heather, and untouched paths, it’s where you can breathe deeply and let nature work its magic. Away from the busy streets, the quiet places of Braemar, Balmoral, and Ballater invite you to slow down and reconnect.

On a sun-soaked afternoon, I joined a mother and daughter for a simple walk through the heather covered hills near Braemar. The stillness of the land, the soft rustling of wildflowers in the breeze, it felt like we had stumbled upon a place untouched by time. Far from the hustle of Edinburgh’s Fringe, the landscape here invited us to slow down, breathe deeply, and just be.

This part of Scotland feels like a well-kept secret. Braemar’s hills, Balmoral’s towering estate, and Ballater’s winding trails—it’s a place to wander, to let your mind drift as you explore paths that few others tread. These aren’t just destinations; they’re invitations to reconnect with nature and with yourself.

As the little one toddled barefoot steps on the soft grass, wide-eyed at the sight of sheep grazing nearby, the sense of peace was palpable. It’s moments like these, when life feels simpler, that are worth capturing. The Highlands, with their untamed beauty, offer the perfect setting for these candid and authentic memories. Whether it’s a quiet moment shared between a mother and daughter or the soft light falling on the hills as the sun sets, these are the images that stay with you.

If you're heading into the outdoors with a young child, keep it simple. Bring layers for those changing Scottish winds, snacks to keep the little ones happy, and let them explore at their own pace. Barefoot moments on the soft grass, little discoveries like wildflowers and stones—these are the memories that matter.

If you're dreaming of a family adventure away from the noise, my photoshoots are designed to be as relaxed as the landscapes we explore. There's no rush—plenty of time for snacks, wandering, and letting everyone feel at ease. We’ll capture your moments naturally, with the freedom to just enjoy the day in Scotland's hidden gems.
